Brows, lashes & nails

The upkeep, done properly

Lorran looks after this side of the studio. It is the work most people come back for every few weeks, and the reason everything else still looks right months later.

Brows

Mapped first, then shaped

Brows get measured and mapped before anything is removed or set. Faces are not symmetrical and neither are brows, so the shape is built around what you have rather than a template laid over the top of it.

What suits you depends on how much brow you are working with. Lamination is transformative on sparse or unruly brows and unnecessary on brows that already sit well, which is worth saying before you book it.

Guide lines mapped onto a client's brows before lamination

Brow lamination

Hairs are relaxed and reset upwards, so a brow that grows in several directions sits in one.

  • Best on sparse, unruly or downward-growing brows
  • Lasts around six to eight weeks
  • Usually paired with a tint

Brow tinting

Colour through the hair and, where it helps, a light tint on the skin beneath to fill gaps.

  • Adds depth without adding shape
  • Lasts around two to four weeks
  • Patch test required beforehand

Shaping

Waxed and tidied to the mapped shape. Conservative by default, because you can always take more off.

  • Mapped to your bone structure
  • Every four to six weeks
  • Grows out evenly rather than patchily

Brow results

On the day, and once it settles

Freshly laminated brows sit bolder and more brushed-up than they will in a week. Both stages are shown here and each image says which it is.

Laminated brows once settled, brushed up with a defined shape
Settled How it looks once it has relaxed. This is the one to judge by.

Nails

BIAB, and everything on top of it

Builder gel gives a natural nail something to grow under, which is the point of it. If your nails split or peel before they get anywhere, BIAB is usually the answer rather than extensions.

Art is done by hand at the appointment. Bring a picture if you have one, or come with a colour and a vague idea and it gets worked out in the chair.

  • Wear something loose to leave in

Waxing

  • Every four to six weeks keeps it comfortable
  • Avoid retinol on the area beforehand

Brows, lashes and nails all run on their own cycle. Booking the next one before you leave is the easiest way to stay on top of it.
